Exam Accommodations

Exam Accommodations are approved modifications made to the standard exam setting for students with disabilities.

Exam accommodations include extended time, distraction-limited environment, and approved breaks. In order to receive the necessary exam accommodation once approved by the Disability Services department, students are expected to schedule their exams through the Accommodate portal. The Testing Center is open for appointments 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-5:30pm

Helpful Info

  • The Testing Center is located on the ground floor of the Academic Commons.
  • You must schedule your exam 7 days prior to your exam date. Please note the Testing Center is open from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-5:30pm and any exams outside of business hours must be scheduled at an alternate time based on professor's approval.
  • Prior to the exam, you should ask your professor whether you need to come to the classroom to pick up the exam or whether the exam will be waiting for you at Disability Services. If you don't learn this information in advance, you could arrive at the Testing Center at the test time, only to learn you first need to go to the classroom.
  • If you are late notifying Disability Services of an exam date due to the professor's late notice to you, you remain eligible for your exam accommodations. You must have your professor contact Disability Services to verify this situation. In all other circumstances, less than 7 calendar days' notice to DS of your intention to take an exam with additional time will likely result in the requirement that you take the exam under the same conditions as others taking the course.
  • Please notify Disability Services in a timely manner if you need to change or cancel an appointment. Rescheduling an exam still needs to fall within one week鈥檚 notice.

  • Proctored appointments must be scheduled directly through the Accommodate portal
  • Proctored exams scheduling steps can be found in the Accommodate platform FAQ page.
  • You must come to the testing appointment prepared with the necessary supplies such as a scantron, bluebook, pen, pencil, calculators, and scratch paper. You must arrive on time for proctored exam appointments. If you are late, you will not be given extra time at the end of the exam to make up lost minutes.
  • You must arrive for your testing appointment at the time you have scheduled. During finals week, rooms will not be held for longer than 1 hour if you have not yet arrived. If you are late for a proctored appointment rooms cannot be guaranteed and appointments may not be able to be accommodated. 
  • Private and shared testing rooms are supplied with digital clocks for your convenience.
  • All computers being used in the Testing Center during proctored appointments are being monitored. Internet usage is strictly prohibited while taking exams with Disability Services. This includes deletion of internet browser history.  
  • Mobile devices and smartwatches are not allowed in testing rooms. Any violations of this policy will be reported to your professor and consequences may include a failing grade on the exam and possible disciplinary action.

  • If you believe the appointment length of time is incorrect confirm with the testing staff prior to starting your exam. It is your responsibility to track your time during your appointment. 
  • All students must notify the proctor prior to leaving their testing room (e.g. to use the restroom or to take an approved break).
  • In the event that your professor requests for your exam to be hand delivered to their office/classroom, you will be expected to deliver your exam materials in a sealed envelope and drop it off in a timely manner upon your appointment. 
  • You must follow Occidental鈥檚 Code of Student Conduct and the College Shared Academic Integrity Commitment at all times. Disability Services staff will report any and all incidents in which academic integrity may have been compromised to the instructor and/or Judicial Examiner for resolution.
