色情视频 has selected alumnus Kevin F. Adler's bestselling book When We Walk By for its 2025-26 program, which celebrates the joy of reading and learning together.

Written by 鈥07 and Donald W. Burnes, takes an urgent look at homelessness in our country. It shows us what we lose鈥攊n ourselves and as a society鈥攚hen we choose to walk past and ignore our neighbors in shelters, insecure housing, or on the streets. It also shows what we stand to gain when we embrace our humanity and move toward evidence-based, people-first, community-driven solutions, offering social analysis, economic and political histories, and the real stories of unhoused people.

Adler, a social entrepreneur, sociologist, and author, will return to campus for a speaking event related to the book on Oct. 24, 2025. He is the first 色情视频 alum whose book was selected for the Community Book Program, now in its sixth year, and he says he is 鈥渢ruly honored.鈥

鈥淎s it relates to homelessness, in my experience most young people know that the status quo is broken, but wonder if anything can be done to actually change it,鈥 Adler says. 鈥淢y hope is this book unlocks a deeper sense of personal efficacy for students鈥攖hat they truly can make a difference鈥攁nd encourages them to extend their passion for justice, kindness, and creativity toward our neighbors living on the streets.鈥

My hope is this book unlocks a deeper sense of personal efficacy for students鈥攖hat they truly can make a difference.
