Members of Occidental Children's Theater perform on the grass in brightly colored tshirts

The historic, critically acclaimed Occidental Children’s Theater will perform Rapunzilla, the Monster with the Golden Hair at the outdoor Hillside Theater from July 10–August 23, 2025.

Conceived and scripted by Resident Professor of Theater and Performance Studies Jamie Angell, the performances are open to the public with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

“In addition to the title story, Rapunzilla, the Monster with the Golden Hair, we are adapting three traditional stories: The Man Who Had a Good Wife (from the country of Georgia), The Boastful Toad (from Bali), and Coyote and the Trader (From the Brule Sioux people),” Angell says.

The cast is composed of Occidental students and alumni: Connor Leebardt ’25, Haowen Luo 罗浩闻 ’24, Max Gray ’23, Sandy Nguyen ’21, Mai Linh Wong ’26, and Ellie Taylor ’24, directed by Tristan Waldron ’12.

Over the course of an hour, ?the cast will perform energetic and funny stories without props, sets or special costumes, relying only on their acting and acrobatic skills. You can read more about the history of Occidental Children’s Theater in the Spring 2024 issue of Occidental magazine.

Tickets for this year’s performances are available and cost $9 for children and $12 for adults, with a special discount for Occidental families.
